FLORENCE, AL – Dr. Ross Alexander, the Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs at the University of North Alabama, is expected to be named President of Texas A&M University-Texarkana, a four-year public comprehensive university that is part of the Texas A&M University System. Alexander is set to begin his tenure at TAMUT in mid-July.

Dr. Alexander is the exclusive finalist at this stage in the process after a comprehensive national search. Yesterday’s vote by the Texas A&M University System Board of Regents paves the way for the finalization of his terms of employment at a subsequent meeting in July.

“I am honored, privileged, and humbled to be chosen as the next President of Texas A&M University-Texarkana,” he said. “I am deeply grateful to Chancellor (John) Sharp for the faith he has placed in me to assume this exhilarating new role at an exceptional university in an extraordinary community. TAMUT is a relatively young university with tremendous potential. I am honored to lead it during this next exciting phase of growth, ascendency, and expansion.”

Among his many accomplishments at UNA, Dr. Alexander helped oversee the development of the Smart Growth enrollment strategy which has led to record University enrollment; he led his team in developing industry partnerships with large employers, including the U.S. Federal Government through the Federal Academic Alliance, the State of Alabama, Huntsville Hospital, and others; he also worked with deans and other academic administrators to add UNA’s first four doctoral programs and the institution’s first three associate’s degree programs.

“Provost Alexander has been an exceptional leader during his six years at UNA,” said UNA President Dr. Ken Kitts. “His innovative and engaging approach to our academic programming has led to remarkable brand expansion throughout the state, region, the nation, and even the globe. Dena and I wish Ross, Lilia, and their children the very best as they embark on this new journey as the first family of Texas A&M University-Texarkana.”
